logical units are a frequent object of linguistic research. Initially, the researchers' attention was focused on their analysis within the framework of the language system and the development of classifications of these language units. At the present stage of the development of linguistics, with a turn towards pragmatics, the focus of research has shifted to the study of the functioning of phraseological units in various communicative situations, which leads to the study of their communicative and pragmatic functions in different types of texts. The pragmatic approach to phraseology turns out to be one of the most important, since it is the use of phraseological units outside the framework of the system that allows us to truly see their formal and semantic structure, their functional activity and text-forming potential. The purpose of this study is to analyze the functioning of somatic phraseological units in the work of fiction, the novel by E. M. Remarque "Three Comrades" and the features of searching for their equivalents in the translation languages, Russian and English.
Keywords:phraseology, functions of phraseological units, somatism, somatic phraseology, full equivalent, partial equivalent, lexical translation, descriptive translation, calculation, refusal of translation
