The article is devoted to a topic that is relevant today. This is the application of reengineering. It is considered as an effective tool in management. Various approaches to the definitions of engineering and reengineering are presented. Reengineering is considered as a strategic tool in management, which is aimed at acquiring competitive advantages of business and increasing the efficiency of the enterprise. Comparative characteristics of the process of improvement and reengineering of business are presented. Three main categories of "beacons" are highlighted. They can signal the need to develop activities within the framework of reengineering. They are a loss of competitive positions, a decrease in loyalty and involvement of personnel, a discrepancy between the ambitious plans of the enterprise management and the capabilities of the organization. The technology for conducting the reengineering process is presented. The need to develop a development strategy that takes into account many factors is determined. These factors are the rapid development of modern technologies, the constantly changing needs of society; the availability of time and funds necessary and sufficient to implement changes. The main forms of reengineering are considered.
