the work is devoted to the study of slang and its functioning in the American version of the English language and is carried out in the traditions of domestic and foreign researchers: I. V. Arnold, L. S. Burdina, V. G. Vilyuman, I. R. Galperin, A. L. Klimenko, M. M. Makovsky, L. Men cken, U. Labov, E. partridge, T. A. Solovieva, G. A. Sudzilovsky, V. A. Khomyakov and others. The relevan ce of the problem is due to the constant updating of the lexical layer, respectively, the linguistic characteristics of youth student slang reflect the trends of changes in the language. The paper investigates the classification and semantic features of English slang from the standpoint of sociolinguistics. The most significant characteristics of slang of American students are highlighted.
