Unauthentic politeness and language games

the article deals with the possible connection between two linguistic phenomena: language games and unauthentic impoliteness. It describes the main approaches to the interpretation of these concepts and indicates the factors that bring two linguistic phenomena closer together: conscious violation of the linguistic norm; the fact that both linguistic phenomena tend to be used to form impoliteness in an unusual context; messages with language game and with inauthentic impoliteness are both aimed at eliciting similar reactions; both phenomena occur in similar types of social context. The article also includes a description of the results of a linguistic experiment that also indicate the existence of a connection between language games and inauthentic impoliteness.
