The article, written in the course of linguistic poetics, observes the linguistic structure of the microconcept MOUNTAINS, which plays an important role in the formation of the artistic worldimage of I.A. Bunin's Shadow of the bird. The structure of the microconcept MOUNTAINS includes a conceptual layer, the semantics of which are wider than the complex of dictionary definitions due to the inclusion of a symbolic component. Along with it, the structure of the microconcept MOUNTAINS includes emotional and expressive layers, which correlate with the elements of two peripheries. The first periphery of the concept under consideration is created through syntagmatics, in other words, elements of the near context. The second periphery is formed by a system of tropes and stylistic devices. The analysis of the two peripheries made it possible to identify "penetrating", cyclic-forming semes, the most important of which are ‘border’, ‘peak (holy, God)’, ‘dynamics’, ‘picturesqueness’.
