This article explores the main semiotic and cognitive-psychological models of translation. According to these models, translation is a complex verbal-cognitive process in which a lot of factors are taken into account (i.e. semiotic, extralinguistic and cognitive-psychological factors) that affect the final result - the text of translation. Despite the fact that many models highlight the importance of the associative array, this aspect has not been studied sufficiently, which provides a prerequisite for the development of a cognitive-associative approach to the study of translation process.
Keywords:translation process, cognitive-associative model of translation, semiotic model of translation, cognitive-psychological model of translation, theoretical review.
