Control of the district courts of the Russian Empire over the inquiry and investigation of severe criminal crimes at the turn of the end of the XIX-beginning of the XX centuries. On the materials of the Simbirsk province

the paper, based on extensive archival materials, describes the main directions of supervision by the District Courts over the activities of investigation chambers in counties (uezdy) and large cities. Supervision was carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office of the District Court, which was part of the judicial institutions and subordinated to the Chairman of the District Court, reporting to him on the work carried out. In addition, the chairmen of the district courts exercised direct supervision over the activities of the congresses of justices of the peace in the counties in the order of subordination
