the article is devoted to the phonological interpretation of biphonemic consonants. It is shown that when identifying the morphemic structure of such words, one should proceed not from the orthographic appearance, but from the accepted pronunciation. It is shown that the presence of the morphemic border "root + suffix" and "prefix + suffix" at the junction of two identical consonants supports the pronunciation of long consonants and within morphemes. The absence of such joints, as a rule, leads to the fact that long consonants are used less often inside morphemes. The article distinguishes between the phonetic and phonological factors affecting the opposition of long and short consonants.
