THE ACTIVITIES OF CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL SOCIETIES LIKE TH SOCIETY OF FINE ARTS IN ST. PETERBURG – PETROGRAD ON THE TERRITORY OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE

The article introduces the reader one of the pages in the history of cultural and educational institutions in Russia. At the end of the XIX c. – the beginning of the XX c. there was a wave for the formation of such communities. The author analyzed the special literature and archival sources on their history. As a result, some characteristic features in the activities of various Societies were identified.
