THE FORMATION OF FUNCTIONAL LITERACY IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The article discusses the stages of the development of functional literacy. Special attention is paid to extracurricular activities of schoolchildren, which is designed to teach additional and basic skills necessary for life. The emphasis is placed on the fact that functional literacy includes natural science literacy, financial, computer, mathematical, and reading literacy. All these types serve as the key to the formation of the main directions of students' thinking, their knowledge, and guidelines in life. In the experimental part, the diagnosis of the level of functional literacy among younger schoolchildren in the third grades. The result of the work is general conclusions confirming the importance of functional literacy in extracurricular activities among the younger grades. A program of extracurricular activities to expand knowledge of natural science literacy is also proposed.
