The article is devoted to the problem of using authentic video content (TV series) in the process of teaching foreign languages, which is one of the acute problems of modern methods of teaching foreign languages. The authors present an analysis of the stages of working with an authentic series aimed at the formation of hard and soft skills, in relation to the traditional stages of working with video materials. The criteria apparatus for selecting authentic video materials has been analyzed and supplemented, taking into account the audience and the possibility of integration into the educational process. Special attention is paid to the formulation of tasks for the correlation of modern and traditional approaches in the field of teaching foreign languages. Relying on B. Bloom's taxonomy allows us to fully reflect the communicative orientation of the process of teaching foreign languages, and the traditional separation of the stages of working with video material gives the structural integrity of the entire process as a whole. The results obtained can be taken into account when further studying the problem.
