FORMATION OF MEDIA COMPETENCE OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE DISCIPLINE "FOREIGN LANGUAGE")

Objective: This article aims to consider the role of media education in modern higher education, to analyze approaches to the formation of media competence of students of higher educational institutions within the subject "Foreign Language" in connection with the need to develop and implement innovative approaches to teaching, including the use of media technologies and information resources. Methods: As research methods, the author uses the analysis of the main concepts of media education and media competence, the method of pedagogical observation, the method of generalizing domestic and foreign teaching experience. Findings: The article considers the theoretical foundations of media competence and its importance in modern society, studies modern technologies and methods of using media tools and information resources in foreign language lessons. The author analyzes the problems associated with the formation of media competence of university students, determines the main approaches to the formation of media competence skills. As a result of the study, ways and methods for increasing the level of media competence within the framework of the main tasks of media education are proposed. Conclusions: Conclusions were made about the need for continuous work on improving the media competence of students, about the need for an integrated approach to organizing training and using modern methods and technologies for developing media competence of university students using the example of the discipline "Foreign Language".
