This article reveals the need to develop ethnocultural competence of university students in the modern educational paradigm. The main principles of multicultural education of modern student youth in a mono-ethnic and multi-ethnic environment are considered, and pedagogical conditions for the formation of ethnocultural competence of university students in a modern educational environment are identified. The mechanism for the formation of ethnocultural competence, which includes a set of relevant knowledge manifested in skills and abilities, as well as in the types of activities and behavioral models of an individual in the social system, is determined.
