The article raises the question of the peculiarities of the organization of psychiatric care in St. Petersburg in the 1880-1890s. The approach to providing assistance and organizing treatment for the mentally ill in the Alexander III House of Charity and the city Panteleimonovskaya Hospital for the mentally ill is compared. Conclusions are drawn about the similarities and differences in goals, methods, and techniques in organizing mental health care
