The article discusses approaches devoted to the study of the concept of advanced education. The existing scientific discussions regarding the content of this type of education are considered. It is emphasized that in a postindustrial society, the key aspect of advanced education should be «getting ahead of the curve» – the formation of common personality characteristics and key competencies. To understand the essence of advanced education, it is proposed to consider the levels of personality activity. It is shown that the traditional learning system develops only situational activity of students. The main pedagogical condition necessary for the practical implementation of the proactive approach in practice is formulated.
