In the context of information concentration in modern digital society, the issues of scientific results presentation and search for scientific information are extremely acute. In this connection, the genre of scientific article abstract acquires special importance as one of the most relevant methods for presenting the result of a scientific research. In our view, the study of structure and characteristics of abstract texts in order to achieve maximum efficiency in performing basic functions becomes important in linguistics.
This article considers scientific discourse genre, represented by texts of scientific articles abstracts. It compared discursive features of scientific abstracts on construction topics in Russian and English publications. The results of the study demonstrated that in modern scientific discursive space English and Russian abstracts have the same discursive characteristics. The hypothesis of V.E Chernyavskaya was proved that the main function of both English and Russian scientific abstracts is to promote scientific knowledge.
