THE NEIGHBOR IN DISCOURSE: CHINA'S IMAGE IN RUSSIAN NEWS BASED ON FAIRCLOUGH'S THREE-DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS

Liu Zhuolin   (College of Foreign Languages National University of Defense Technology )

Russian media play a crucial role in shaping public perceptions of China, constructing its image through lexical, rhetorical, and narrative strategies. This study examines China’s representation in Russian news media using Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional critical discourse analysis, which includes textual analysis, discursive practices, and social practices. The research reveals how Russian media, through language choices, editorial policies, and public discourse, navigate between strategic partnership and underlying concerns about China’s growing influence. The findings indicate that China’s image in Russian media is shaped by the interplay of state interests, media narratives, and public debates.

Keywords:Russian media, discourse analysis, China’s image, media narratives, Russia-China relations, strategic partnership.
