This paper considers the relevance of studying the specifics of using proverbs related to financial sphere in the headlines of articles in electronic versions of English-language newspapers and magazines. The research work defines proverbs and describes their role in journalism. The author analyzes the structure of headlines that include proverbs, and also examines the transformations that these proverbs undergo. The study reveals which proverbs, what purpose the authors use their metaphorical nature in the headlines of economic articles for, and what transformations these proverbs undergo. The findings are of practical value, they can be used in the process of teaching English in non-linguistic universities, courses related to the theory and practice of translation and lexicology.
