TACTICS FOR CIRCUMVENTING CENSORSHIP IN TELEGRAM CHANNELS: CONTENT ANALYSIS OF "VEILED NARRATIVES"

Zaitsev Ivan Mikhailovich  (title editor, MITZ Izvestia)

This study analyzes censorship circumvention tactics in Russian Telegram channels, with a particular focus on "veiled narratives." Amidst increasing state regulation of the Runet, Telegram has become a crucial platform for disseminating information. The research employs a qualitative content analysis methodology to examine five key parameters: euphemisms, memes, allusions, irony/sarcasm, and broader forms of indirect communication. An analysis of a sample of 20 media and blog channels from 2024 revealed the prevalence of these tactics and their role in shaping collective identity and audience trust. The findings demonstrate how these strategies influence information perception and contribute to the adaptation of editorial policies under algorithmic moderation.

Keywords:Censorship, Telegram, Runet, content analysis, veiled narratives, euphemisms, memes, allusions, media, digital journalism, resistance, audience trust, algorithmic adaptation.
