SEMANTIC FEATURES OF RELIGIOUS-RELATED LANGUAGE UNITS OF CRYING IN SPANISH

Popova Evgeniya Andreevna  (PhD (Philology), Assistant Professor; Moscow State Linguistic University )

The article deals with linguistic units (words and idioms) of crying that contain a religious component in the Spanish language. The study aims to analyze their cognitive foundations, historical evolution, and cultural connotations, drawing on data from academic dictionaries, etymological references, and phraseological sources. The article identifies three key groups of units: 1) lexemes associated with ritual weeping; 2) words rooted in biblical imagery; 3) idioms with metaphorical or comparative structures. Special attention is given to semantic shifts when sacred concepts acquire ironic or hyperbolic meanings in modern speech. The study concludes that religious traditions (Catholic rituals, biblical texts) play a crucial role in the conceptualization and verbalization of emotions.
