The subject of the study is digital literacy of schoolchildren as a basic competence of modern education. The purpose of the work is to comprehensively assess the level of digital literacy of students in grades 7-11, identify the main problems and develop effective ways to solve them. The research methodology is based on a mixed approach, combining a structured questionnaire of 142 schoolchildren from three regions of Russia and practical testing using 30 tasks in three blocks: information literacy, cybersecurity and digital ethics. The results of the study demonstrate an average level of digital literacy of schoolchildren with a total of 53.4% correct answers, while the most problematic area is information literacy with a result of 44.8%. A significant discrepancy was revealed between the overestimated self-assessment of students' digital skills and their actual competencies. The scope of application of the results covers the educational practice of comprehensive schools, programs for advanced training of teachers and the development of state standards for digital education. Scientific novelty lies in a comprehensive analysis of digital literacy using a practice-oriented case testing methodology that is as close as possible to real situations of the digital environment. The main conclusion of the study confirms the need for systematic integration of the digital literacy course into the compulsory school curriculum with an emphasis on the development of critical thinking and practical cybersecurity skills. Development prospects include studying the effectiveness of various pedagogical technologies for the formation of digital competencies, a comparative analysis of regional characteristics and the development of adaptive educational programs taking into account the individual needs of students.
