Concepts of social capital: historic background and present time

The article discusses various concepts of social capital. The author analyzes various approaches set out by James Coleman, Pierre Bourdieu, Robert Putnam and shows similarities and differences of these theories. Particular attention is paid to the need of developing a holistic understanding of this phenomenon. That is especially important now, when human civilization is in serious danger. It is essential to establish common standards of interaction for all of humanity, which, according to the author, can be done relying on universal values and the paradigm of systemic hedonism.
