Research into the theory of musical art

The article is devoted to the formulation of the problem of the theory of the musical-historical process. The significance of periodization for scientific knowledge (musicology) is discussed, an analysis of the current situation with the study of theory in music and a review of approaches to solving this problem in non-musical experience are given.
