The role of different creative associations has always been great in the history of Russia. One of such associations, which had a great influence on the further formation of Russian art, is the Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions, which for half a century of its existence created the image of the whole epoch. This article reveals the history of the creation of this organization, which gave not only Russia, but also the world a whole pleiad of unsurpassed masters of painting. The author of the article, first of all, draws attention to the genre uniqueness of the postponed artists-peredvizhniki. Revealing the artistic specificity of the creative work of the Peredvizhniki, the author stops at four priority genres: the genre of everyday life, historical genre, landscape genre and genre of religious painting. These genres are considered on the example of paintings by V.G. Perov, V.E. Makovsky, N.N. Ge, V.I. Surikov and A.I. Kuindzhi.
