The political environment of communication has led to the allocation of a special language subsystem, represented by political lexemes. The purpose of this article is to reveal the general and specific lexemes ELECTION / ELECTION in the naive minds of Russians and Englishmen. The associative experiment carried out showed that informants of both nations have a holistic idea of the meaning of the lexemes under study. Both the Englishmen and the Russians assess the lexical unit - most often negative; the positive factor characterizes to a greater extent the associations of Englishmen. Thus, for Russians, ВЫБОРЫ are often a useless procedure based on falsification; among Englishmen, the campaign component of the elections, aimed at attracting voters (recall that the experiment was conducted in 2013), is becoming more actual.
Keywords:political language, lexeme ELECTION in the minds of Russians and Englishmen, associative experiment, method of content analysis, thematic group, semantic field.
