THE GENESIS OF THE THEORY OF MEANING. HISTORY AND METHODOLOGY. PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Goal. To consider the theory of meaning in modern linguistics, paying special attention to semantics and lexical semantics. Task. To briefly outline the main postulates and directions of semantics, to illustrate the theoretical postulates of research using the example of the concept of Independence, to consider and analyze the components of its meaning. Scientific hypothesis. The meanings of words cannot exist in isolation from the political, social and cultural processes taking place around them. The nature of meaning is multi-layered and multidimensional, influenced by historical, social and cultural phenomena, which is why linguistic meaning is inseparable from the historical process of formation of human thinking, the development of human culture. Methods. Component-definitional analysis for the description and analysis of the meaning of the concept of Independence. Results. Words, phrases, and sentences are endowed with, contain, and convey information about the world, a particular culture, and the peculiarities of a particular nation's mentality through linguistic signs. The theory of meaning explores the relationship between words and their meanings, as well as the context in which they are used. In modern works on the theory of meaning, the contextual and pragmatic aspect comes to the fore when studying words and their meanings.
